I recently visited a Deva Curl Salon In Southern California and it literally changed my life. When people ask me what a Deva Curl Salon is… I start with … I literally cried when I saw my “after.” I mean I literally full-on cried tears of joy! Then I tell them… A Deval Curl Salon is a salon specialized in giving naturally curly hair a curl by curl haircut. If your experience is anything like mine, it will be an experience you will never EVER regret!!
I had my very first Deva Cut October 12, 2019 at the Deva Curl Salon called the Capella Salon in Studio City California. To say I was nervous is a complete understatement. I literally could not sleep for three reasons.
1. I was nervous my Deva Curl Salon stylist was going to cut off all my hair in order to get my custom Deva Curl style.
2. I was nervous that there is no way she would be able to detangle/deal with all my hair.
3. I was nervous the products wouldn’t work for my hair and that I would spend a crapload of money on a crappy cut.
Boy was I wrong! About everything!
1. First! My stylist Janaye Diggs is such an incredibly knowledgeable human being. She literally pours her soul into this work and she so gifted at crafting a custom Deva Curl for your face. I didn’t even see where she cut my hair until she was all done. When I looked on the floor I barely noticed any hair sitting there but somehow she revealed my best shape… and a totally different shape.
I didn’t really know what to expect walking into this for sure. But I did hope I would not leave bald and after my Deva Curl, I actually left looking like my hair was longer which was such an incredible and welcomed surprise.

2. Not only did Janaye detangle my hair, but she did it ALL with her hands. Lovingly and strand by strand. DO YOU SEE HOW MUCH HAIR I HAVE?? I don’t even detangle my own hair stand by strand. And there she stood patiently attacking every morsel of this crazy mop of mine which is totally part of the Deva Curl Salon process.
While she detangles she shared her knowledge with me and gave me custom tips to help me understand how to make my hair it’s best.
Janaye jokingly told me that my hair was currently at 2% of its full potential. Which basically means I haven’t even touched the surface. That makes me so excited because “I don’t want incredible hair” said nobody EVER!!!
Part of the Deva Curl Salon process is helping you get rid of build-up. I had no idea how much product buildup I was leaving behind from all the non-water-soluble hair products I have been using.
Nor did I know that the hair on my head wasn’t at its optimal. I literally planned on coming in for only an updated shape. I had no idea I would also walk out with a deep cleanse, deep conditioning and “hair school.” But I am here for all of it honey.
Expectations vs Reality

Better shape and some knowledge about how to better take care of my hair.
Reality
A total hair transformation!!! Girl when I tell you I thought I was walking in with. Good hair day! I tell you no lies!! I was feeling myself so much as noted by these selfies
But you guys!! That’s because I had no idea the potential that my hair had inside. And Janaye totally helped me to uncover that.
So excited about my Day 1 hair below. If you are a natural hair girl you know that normal day 1 hair is small and lifeless but not today!!! I can’t wait for Day 3 hair!!! More blog posts about my Deva Curl Salon experience coming soon!!

I was introduced to Innersence hair products during this hair cut, and have used Innersence exclusively since. My current routine includes washing with the Hair Bath Shampoo, styling with the I Create Volume, and finishing with the I Create Hold hair gel.
