Surprising Fact #1

You don’t need to be a strong swimmer to go parasailing

We went parasailing in  Montego Bay Jamaica and we never touched the water. Well except the pleasant toe tip that the captain provided on purpose while we were securely fastened in the safety harness. We didn’t expect this but it was a refreshing surprise.

When you book your trip be sure to ask about if you will take off the land on a platform.

parasailing surprising facts

We ran into another couple who went parasailing in Egypt and they complained that at the end of the sail they had to swim to the boat. I quickly learned to ask about how we would take off on land because of their experience. I am happy to report that many parasailing boats do include a platform including the boat we used in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Surprising fact #2

Take off and landing was silky smooth

Another surprising fact about parasailing is that the takeoff and landing were silky smooth. I completely expected to get that feeling in your stomach when you ride a rollercoaster and your stomach drops to the floor.  Or when you driving and the road dips suddenly, you know the feeling I am talking about right? I was pleasantly surprised that the entire ride up and down was super smooth. It felt like I was floating the entire time and didn’t once grasp on for dear life. I thought I would though! My heart was pounding when we got ready to take off, but once the wind caught the sail, the only feeling I had was pure awe in how beautiful the view was.

Surprising Fact #3

Weather will dictate the timing of your trip

Okay, perhaps this tip should be a surprising fact about parasailing can be dangerous so you do want to be patient with weather conditions. Please be forewarned that conditions have to right before you can take to the air. We were not able to actually go parasailing the first time we signed up to go due to weather. Just after we paid for our trip the weather took a sudden turn for the worst and it started to rain a ton. But even before the rain, our captain had delayed our flight because he wasn’t confident that wind conditions were perfect. On the first day, we didn’t take off at all, and had to reschedule for the next day.

*Insider tip- mornings are most ideal for parasailing as the wind is most steady and the weather in tropical environmental is less temperamental.

Plus Option Tip

No photo package offered although our co-captain did use our phone to snap these awesome photos while we were in the air. All photos on this blog were either taken by the co captain or our go pro.

No transportation cost to parasailing: Our resort had a company available for hire right on the property so we walked to the boat.

The view from the sky was unreal! I can’t wait until my kids are big enough to share this experience with.

I’m glad to know that I don’t need to be a strong swimmer if I’m going to play water sports just like parasailing. In my opinion, I think I’ll book a schedule with a good company that is famous for its smooth take-off and landing. Since the weather will dictate the experience I’ll have, I might ask the company to get me a schedule that has high winds so that I can enjoy the view from above.
